Lab Grown diamonds, also known as synthetic, artificial or cultured diamonds are real diamonds that have been man made in a laboratory. While natural diamonds take centuries to develop under the earths surface, lab grown diamonds can be grown in a few weeks. Chemically, physically and optically identical to natural diamonds, it can be very difficult to tell the difference between the two without using specialised testing equipment.
Lab Grown diamonds are generally cheaper than natural diamonds due to their low demand and can be a good alternative to natural diamonds.
All our Lab Grown diamonds come with a certificate of authenticity and guarantee.
There are two methods used to grow Lab Diamonds:
CVD (Chemical Vapour Deposition) – Lab Grown diamond seeds are loaded into a CVD reactor. Then, a mix of gasses containing carbon is added at a very low pressure. Microwaves are added to heat the gases and generate a plasma. When the temperatures climb over several thousand degrees, the gas molecules break apart and carbon atoms bond to the seeds, growing them one layer at a time.
HPHT (High Temperature High Pressure) – This method mimics the conditions under which diamonds naturally form. Large mechanical presses are used to apply extreme pressure and high temperature to carbon in the presence of a diamond seed. The seeds act as a template for a lattice of carbon to grow layer by layer over the course of a few days. While this method can be used to make lab made diamonds, it’s not the preferred method as CVD is a more efficient production technology.
Why choose a Lab-grown diamond?
Lab Grown diamonds are ethically-sourced, eco-friendly, and far more affordable than their mined counterparts. You can get a bigger or higher quality diamond with the same budget. Our diamonds come fully certified with a guarantee, produced in a quality controlled environment not mined from the earth.
